Allerston, between Pickering & Scarborough

The Red House is a surprisingly spacious property standing in large gardens, together with useful outbuildings, stabling, manege and railed paddocks, making the whole ideally suited to anyone with equestrian interests. The total site area amounts to approximately 9.4 acres, of which around 7 acres can be attributed to the paddocks.

The house was originally a row of cottages, presumably once associated with the lime kilns which provide a magnificent backdrop to the property. At some stage these have been amalgamated into one residence and then substantially extended to the rear. The accommodation briefly comprises: entrance hall, shower/cloakroom, sitting room, living room, office, kitchen, conservatory and dining room which has in the past been used as a fourth bedroom, being located next to the ground floor shower room. To the first floor there is a sizeable landing, house bathroon and three double bedrooms. The largest bedroom at the rear of the property is exceptionally large and could easily be subdivided to provide an extra bedroom or en-suite facilities.

Externally there is ample space for parking and turning on the gravelled drive and beyond this there are very large gardens which rise gently to the north and feature lawn, mature trees, shrubs and a series of ponds. The gardens extend as far as a superb 40' x 20' sand manege, adjacent to which is a stable block with tack room and power and light laid on. A gated access leads into three grass paddocks which are ideal for equestrian use and are free draining. The paddocks amount to approximately 7 acres (2.83 hectares) with the gardens and plot accounting for a further 2.4 acres. A modern portal frame building provides useful secure storage and a stone and pantile byre provides garaging. The Allerston lime kilns are a Scheduled Ancient Monument and are understood to date back to around 1800. This imposing stone structure has an interesting history and is a unique component of the property.

Allerston is a picturesque village, situated on gently rising ground just below the southern boundary of the North York Moors National Park. The Red House is located just outside the main settlement, fronting onto the A170 and is identified by our 'For Sale' board. Allerston is located approximately 6 miles east of the market town of Pickering and 12 miles west of Scarborough. The property is also within easy reach of the A64, giving access to Malton, York and Leeds.
